Chris' Story
While leading a platoon in the 4th Brigade of the 82nd Airborne Division this past summer, Christopher Goeke was killed when responding to an attack on an army facility in Kandahar City, Afghanistan. Chris left behind a loving wife, mother, father, brother, two sisters and a large network of family and friends.
Born and raised in Apple Valley, MN, Chris graduated from Apple Valley High School and furthered his education at the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York, graduating sixth in his class. While at Apple Valley and West Point, Chris was a leader not only in school, but also in the church and local community. Some of Goeke’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, the Army Commendation Medal and the National Defense Service Medal.
In his honor, the CGLF intends to award scholarships to high school students that best exemplify the leadership qualities that Chris embodied.
